Kalispell, Mont. – Say the word “Flathead,” and most Montanans think of the stunning and pristine waters of Flathead Lake or the infamous and delicious Flathead cherries. But after spending some time on the Flathead River, I’ve become of big fan of that “Flathead” as well.
With its headwaters in the Canadian Rockies, the Flathead River flows south through Glacier National Park and the Flathead Valley – including Flathead Lake – before heading west and connecting with the Clark Fork River in Paradise, Montana.
Flowing through towns like Columbia Falls and Kalispell, the Flathead River has meandered its way into the hearts of countless Montanans. It offers a lifestyle many seek and serves as an escape for residents and travelers alike.
The river recreation opportunities are plentiful on the Flathead River, including: kayaking, canoeing, rafting, tubing, swimming, fishing and camping.
