Billings, Mont. – Every season has something special to offer, but crisp air and brilliant leaves make autumn in Montana simply spectacular.
It’s Mother Nature’s annual celebration of life – and we’re all invited! As the maples and aspens fill the air with confetti-like leaves of yellow and red, we indulge in sweet sips of hot apple cider and delicious bites of pumpkin pie. Yep, this is the party of the year.
And yet, it’s so easy to get caught up in day to day life that we forget to look up and take in the beauty that surrounds us. I mean, come on. Mother Nature gave us all a VIP ticket, a first-class seat, an A-list invite to her Fall Brouhaha. The least we could do is take the time to savor the season a little bit.
This weekend I was able to do just that. With the little dude in tow, I met up with a few of my girlfriends at a trendy little cafe that just reopened downtown – FINALLY – after a nearly yearlong renovation/menu revamp project. We grabbed a cup of java and set out on an October morning stroll. With leaves fluttering to the ground, we walked up and down the “tree streets” and “poet streets” of Billings, admiring the old houses and towering trees in their neatly manicured yards. As we gabbed, joked and caught up on the latest life happenings, I couldn’t help but revel in how lucky we were. How lucky we were to have each other to confide in, lean on, joke with and genuinely care for. How lucky we were to live in this great community that encourages a healthy lifestyle. How lucky we were that it was a sunny, 65 degree (!!!) Saturday morning in October. And as I looked down at my little guy snoozing in his stroller, how lucky he was to have these awesome ladies in his life and to grow up in a safe, friendly community.
It was one of those moments that give your soul the boost its been needing. While Mother Nature is commemorating another successful year and getting ready to let Old Man Winter take over, it’s amazing how the cool air and autumn leaves can reinvigorate your passion for life and those you love.
